Product Description

A timing belt is very important parts to drive camshafts with a crankshaft. On older vehicles, a chain type has been used, but the belt type has become more popular because of the silence and lower cost.

But belt types are elastic and can suddenly snap on street causing serious trouble. However, engine are becoming more powerful, so some are fitted with a timing chain again for more endurance and strength.

When a belt breaks, camshafts stop rotating, but the crankshaft still rotates with the vehicle moving. Then pistons hit the valves and, in the worst case, an engine receives very hard damages.

1. Composition
The belt surface protects it from cam gears. Generally nylon material is used, but Maruha heavy duty belt are strengthened with nylon plus kevlar, and are able to improve the endurance and reduce to wear.

A timing belt case protects a timing belt, but it also gives out heat which harms the timing belt as temperatures increase inside the case. When engine power increases, there is increased load and heat which harm the belt even further.

The rubber part of the recent timing belts usually are H-NBR as STD. Maruha timing belts are not H-NBR as STD level, but high strengthened H-NBR for racing engines.

The core protects the belt from elasticity. Glass fibers are used for STD belts, but more fine glass fibers are twisted for increased strength for Maruha belts.

2. Elastic Mechanism
There are two patterns for the cause of belt elasticity. It is elastic in the middle core and another is that belt cogs dropping into the tooth of cam gears.

Maruha timing belts are designed against these two cases and are able to keep the correct valve timing with high performance.
